How I work

Most people come to me with a feeling — something they want to say, something they know matters — but not yet the words or the shape.

Before I think about microphones or timelines, I listen. I ask questions most producers do not ask. I look for the story underneath the story. And then I help build the structure, the sound, and the experience that makes it land.

Production is only one part of what I do.

Find the real story

Every project begins with deep listening. What is the organization actually trying to say? What does the audience actually need to feel? I do not assume. I ask.

Shape the experience

Story structure, editorial voice, sonic identity — these decisions determine whether people finish an episode or close the app. I make them with intention, not habit.

Stay until it is right

I do not hand off and disappear. From the first conversation through the final episode, I stay involved. The work is better for it and so is the relationship.

Listen

The work,
in your ears

Three pieces. Three different creative contexts. Listen for how each one balances clarity and emotion — that balance is where the work lives.

Narrative Podcast

The Secret Life of TK Dutes

Producer — "Cherish"

TK came to me with a story about grief, creativity, and the things we hold onto long after we should let go. My role was to help shape that into something that could carry a listener through all of it without losing them. Listen for how the pacing gives the emotion room to breathe — and how the story earns its ending rather than rushing to it.

Healthcare Storytelling

So Glad You Asked

Producer — Show Trailer

A trailer has one job: make someone feel something and then want more. For SGYA, that meant establishing trust, warmth, and credibility in under ninety seconds — for an audience that includes both patients navigating mental health and clinicians who know the research. Listen for how the opening sets a tone that is honest without being heavy.

Nonprofit & Mission Driven

Say That With Love

Creative Executive Producer — Dr. Byron Young

NBCDI needed a show that could translate their research frameworks into something a parent would actually want to listen to on a Sunday morning. I led the creative development from concept through production — shaping the editorial voice, guiding the format, and making sure the show felt as human as the mission it was built to serve. Listen for how the conversation honors expertise without ever feeling like a lecture.

Ways to Work Together

A few ways
we can work together

Organizational projects always start with a call — I want to understand what you are building before we talk about anything else. If you are a creator, you can book directly below.

For Organizations

  • Podcast Production

If your organization has a story worth telling and you are not sure how to tell it yet — this is where we start. I come in early, stay involved, and build the whole thing with you. Format, voice, sound, structure, editing, launch. Most of these partnerships run a full season or longer because that is how good work actually gets made.

  • Creative Strategy & Consulting

Sometimes an organization knows what it wants to say but not how to shape it. That is where I come in — not to run the production, but to help figure out the right questions before anyone touches a microphone.

  • Creative Direction

Already have a team in place? I can come in as the creative lead — the person who holds the vision, makes the hard editorial calls, and keeps the work honest when it starts to drift.

For Individual Creators

Creative Strategy Session

You have an idea, a project, or a problem you cannot quite solve on your own. We spend the session getting to the bottom of it — what it actually is, what it needs, and what to do next. Most people leave knowing something they did not know when they arrived.

Creative Coaching

This one is harder to describe because it is different every time. Some people come with a career question. Some come stuck. Some come with a vision they cannot get out of their head. We go deeper than a strategy session and slower. If you are not sure which one you need, start here.

Some work takes longer than a session.

If you are building something over months — a body of work, a brand, a creative practice — and you want a trusted person in your corner along the way, ask me about ongoing advisory. It is the kind of relationship I find most meaningful.

"Mike's approach to podcast production is like art. He takes an idea and brings it to life through audio in a way that feels authentic, intentional, and deeply human."

Let's Talk

Some stories are
waiting to be
told well

I take on a small number of projects at a time. Not because I am being precious about it — because that is the only way I know how to do this well. If something you are building feels like it belongs in this company, reach out.
